Star Wars is opening a new add-on at DisneyLand
In 2012 when Disney bought Star Wars, not only did they announce a whole new trilogy of films, but an entire expansion of the Star Wars universe. This includes new lines of books, tv shows, and now an expansion to Disneyland in Anaheim California. In early 2015, rumors circulated the internet about Disneyland opening a third park, a Star Wars themed one, based on their purchase of the franchise. However, it has now been confirmed that a third park is not in the works, but a new add-on to the Disneyland featuring the Star Wars universe is on its way to Disneyland.
Not much has been announced yet about the expansion, leaving fans wondering, what exactly does this new add-on to Disneyland have to offer? Lots of ideas have been shared around the web, including Star Wars themed restaurants and character, and of course new rides. The door has now been opened for all sorts of possibilities. Many fans are showing off their concepts for rides and attractions, and I would like to share mine.
What we do know so far is that the expansion will be based on the new Star Wars sequel trilogy and spin-off films, and what we know about that is very vague. Disney has been keeping a lot about the upcoming film, Star Wars: The Force Awakens, under wraps so we really don’t know much about the plot or characters. What we do know is mostly based on what we’ve gathered from concept art and seen in the minute and a half trailer that was released.
Looking over the trailer again, (with more attention to detail) I’m keeping in mind what images shown here in this brief preview could be potential features in the new expansion. As we can see here we have a man in a stormtrooper outfit, which is followed by other clips of storm troopers in uniforms, so we can clearly see that they will be a part of the next movie. When you go to the Magic Kingdom you get to see Mickey and the gang walking around, perhaps here we will see storm troopers.
Looking at the picture of John Boyega (who will play a new character named Finn) in the stormtrooper outfit, we can see that the background is all desert. Could this possibly be Tatooine?
Looks like it. It would be a really fun idea to have restaurant in the theme of the Cantina bar from the original film, with waiters and waitresses dressed in alien costumes to fit the setting along with a live band.
Also doesn’t this look like it could make a cool ride? It would be fun to have a water themed ride featuring the ships from Star Wars.
And last but not least we see the Millenium Falcon. This opens the doors for all sorts of opportunities. Will there be an flight simulator like the Star Tours attraction, an inside tour of the Millenium Falcon, a roller coaster? There are several possibilities.
Like I mentioned before, this is only a minute and a half teaser trailer so we barely know what is to come at this point and for now we can only speculate until the eventual release of this new add-on.
