I confess with no guilt whatsoever: I am a Disney Freak! It does not matter if I go on all the rides or stay still gazing at the castle. I feel like pixie dusts invade my heart! I can even be sad, but when my feet trespass the ticket gate, it’s over! The sadness is magically postponed for another moment, specially when something new is happening. It feels like Disney is renewing vows with us. With that said, recently my favorite park, Epcot, got two acquisitions: Frozen Ever After and the new Soarin’.
The first one tells the story of Queen Elsa using her powers over the green lands of her kingdom in the summer. She has invited everyone to her Ice Palace for a celebration of a Summer Snow Day. To get there from Arendelle, we board the new ride Frozen Ever After, which was built on the track of what used to be the Maelstrom boat ride in the Norway Pavilion. I was impressed by the most advanced Audio-Animatronics, Disney’s trademarked name for the robot figures that we spot in the attractions. It is clear to see the imagineers were very attentive to details and I know why: the ride designers worked directly with the team that animated the movie.
Next door is a cute cabin called Royal Summerhus inspired by a traditional cabin in rural Norway, which gives guests the opportunity to meet Anna and Elsa. The story is that the royal sisters spent their summers in this house back in happier times when their parents were alive.
It is really an adorable “house” and I loved feeling the sense of family inside, specially when I saw Anna’s toys and the dinnerware in the dining room. I also enjoy taking pictures with Anna or simply looking at her twirling her braids and emanating her joy to the guests.
The second attraction is Soarin’ in a complete new and better version. It reopened with a third screen, a new high-definition laser projection system, new scents and a new show. Soarin’ Around the World tours six continents and replaces the old California-based show. The new show was shot from helicopters with a custom camera rig that flew over places like the Great Wall in China and the Matterhorn in Switzerland.
The entire experience is great. Even waiting in line is fun with the new Soarin’ trivia game. We get to interact with other people and in groups we play with questions about landmarks and get information on locations around the world. You answer the questions with a special site on your mobile phone. Isn’t that cool?
Soarin’ has always been my favorite ride. It brings tears to my eyes every time. On this new one I have my most-liked parts and I would love to share with you all. However, I am afraid to spoil the wonderful moments you will have when there.
I will only say one thing: they added Paris. Just saying and promise nothing more. However I repeat: It is a must go!
